The Making of the Cape Verdean II is a series of soulful and heartfelt conversations with Cape Verdean elders who recall what it was like growing up in the south end of New Bedford MA prior to urban renewal. The documentary is a poignant, jubilant, and
sometimes painful examination of the life of Cape Verdeans in the early to mid 20th century.
The documentary also touches on the journey of the migration from the Cape Verde Islands (located off the west coast of Africa) to New Bedford Massachusetts long before their achieved
independence from colonial oppression of the Portuguese government.
Jeanne Costa is the filmmaker, editor and producer of The Making of the Cape Verdean II. She is also the editor of The Making of the Cape Verdean, a book she recently published which was written by her late father, Manuel E. Costa Sr.
